FDU Instant Decision Day

Luke Sousa and Jon Difillippo

On December 7, Fairleigh Dickinson sent an admissions counselor to Hawthorne High School. They have a program called “FDU: Instant Decision Day” where, after they receive all your applicant information, they come to the school and tell you face to face whether they accept you or deny you into the university. The Clarion went down to the guidance office on this day to get some face time and general emotion on this special day at HHS. Before the meeting with the counselor we talked to senior Sevan Asadurian.

Clarion: Is this one of your top schools? And do you expect to receive scholarships from FDU?

Sevan Asadurian: It’s not really one of my top schools, but to receive a scholarship there would be great.

Clarion:  Are you nervous to talk to the admission counselor?

Sevan Asadurian: Slightly, but I’m excited to find out the results.

We then asked senior Melissa Balboa how she felt about going into the meeting and she said, “If you look nervous, you look weak.”

One of the more jubilant candidates for Instant Decision Day was Justin Rodrigues (J-Rod), who had plenty to say when we interviewed him beforehand.

Clarion: Do you plan on going to FDU next year?  And How do you feel about going to college next year?

Justin Rodrigues: It is one of my top choices. I am nervous because it will be such a new experience.

Justin came out of the interview very excited because of his acceptance to FDU and said, “I’m so excited! I’m going to go call my mom and tell her the great news.”

We also talked to senior Jack Hines coming out of the interview. He had a very relieving look on his face and said, “Although this was not my top choice it feels very good to get in because this gives me more confidence for my other schools going forward.”

He also mentioned, “ If i did not get in I would be very scared to tell my mom.”
