May 16, 2017
On April 28, the Hawthorne High School Media Arts classes went to Downtown Manhattan on an architecture tour.
Hosted by Discover Tours, the trip highlighted architectural advancements and styles through time. Rick, the tour guide, gave insight on some of New York’s history and glamour. Sights such as Federal Hall (that once was our nations capital), the Woolworth Building, The Freedom Tower, Ground Zero Memorial Pools, and the New York Stock Exchange building.
Once in these buildings, one was able to see the rich architecture and how people of the time wanted their buildings to be built. Art Deco and Beaux Arts commanded Wall Street, that mixed with the federal style of the Federal Building.
While in the city, the Federal Building was staging a reenactment of President George Washington being sworn into office. The last stop of the tour was the Bowling Green Plaza near the National Museum of the American Indian. The tour guide discussed the rich history surrounding New York from colonial Dutch times to the modern era and 9/11.
The classes attending the trip were Media 2 students, Media 3, and seniors that got chosen at random from Media 1.
