Hawthorne High School Future Teachers have come back from Memorial High School in West New York, after having a blast taking on the new adventure of exploring each other’s schools. All of the students now have friends from the other school that aspire to be in the same career and share the same passion.  Many students shared phone numbers with one another, this way they all could keep in touch. In class, the future teachers sat down and talked about the similarities and differences between the two schools.

One of main differences between the two schools are the uniforms the students are required to wear at Memorial High School. Some students from Hawthorne like the idea of uniforms, although most of the students disliked it. Another large difference that the Hawthorne students were fond of was the school’s lunch schedule.  They have three lunch periods, but every single student is allowed to leave the building for lunch.

Unlike Hawthorne, West New York has many restaurants and food places surrounding the school. West New York has a very large school with close to two thousand children going to school there daily.  Their school includes two large buildings connected by a bridge. Next year, they are expanding to an even larger third building. Most of the Memorial High School teachers are saying that it is going to feel more like a campus than an individual high school.

The students and Mr. Gomes had a blast on this trip. Each student had unique experiences,  that will stay with them for a lifetime. Each week, Hawthorne’s Future Teachers are getting more prepared for the real world of teaching and taking care of people and students around them.
