The 2017-18 marching band season has just kicked off, and The Clarion was interested to see how Gennesy Cintron, now a second year drum major, has changed over the course of this season. We interviewed Gennesy to determine her feelings towards the marching band and views of success this season.

Clarion: How long have you been in marching band?

Gennesy: I’ve been in the band for 5 years.

Clarion: What do you believe has been the biggest difference, so far, between being a first year drum major and being a second year?

Gennesy: The biggest difference has to be how they trust and look up to me. I’m a role model for a lot of them and that means a lot to me.

Clarion: Have your goals changed at all from last season?

Gennesy: My goals have changed! My goal is to now lead my band to victory and to a successful season while still having fun!

Clarion: Do you believe you’ll accomplish those goals or do you have a plan of how to?

Gennesy: I do believe I’ll accomplish these goals.

Clarion:  Have your feelings toward marching band changed from last year to this year?

Gennesy: Yes, I definitely appreciate everything more now, because I know I don’t get a second shot at senior year marching band.

Clarion:What is your favorite song to play or conduct in the show?

Gennesy: My favorite song to play is Go Your Own Way and my favorite song to conduct is Call Me.

Clarion: Now that you’re a senior, do you have plans to continue marching band in college?

Gennesy: I wish I could continue marching band in college, however I am going to a community college so band isn’t an option for me.

Clarion:  Do you have any advice for a future incoming drum major?

Gennesy: Don’t take yourself too seriously. Have fun while still being an effective leader, and enjoy it, it goes fast.

The Clarion wishes the HHS Marching Band a great season this year and Gennesy the best of luck in college.
