Spanish Club is Starting Off Spicy!

Day of the Dead

The Hawthorne High School Spanish Club is starting off the new school year with exciting upcoming events! They will have fun activities, fundraisers, and even a field trip!

Starting off,  the first event the Spanish Club will celebrate in school will be called The Day of The Dead, also known as La Dia De Los Muertos. This day honors our Hispanic ancestors. In Mexico they celebrate by face painting, dancing, having music, and putting up massive decorations.

On this day the Spanish Club will celebrate by having their faces painted, creating beautiful flower crowns, and making decorations! The Spanish Club is having a t-shirt fundraiser as well: each shirt is short sleeved, royal blue with white lettering!

Each t-shirt cost $15.00 each and the sizes are available in small, medium, large, and extra large. For any further information ask Mrs. Martinez or Mrs. Rivas.

Clarion: Is there going to be any upcoming events for the Spanish Club?

Mrs. Martinez: Yes, the Day of the Dead and the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration.

Clarion: Will the Spanish Club go on any field trip(s) this year? If so, where?

Mrs. Rivas: We’re planning on going to a Spanish restaurant called Granada in Hawthorne.

Clarion: Are there any fundraisers at the moment?

Mrs. Martinez: Yes, the festival that we’re having on November  3rd will be done to collect funds for the club.

Clarion: Do you think the Spanish Club will have any new events or fundraisers?

Mrs. Rivas: Definitely Cinco De Mayo, the festival itself would be a fundraiser. Some other activities like learning how to dance salsa as well.

Clarion: What is one thing you guys would want the Spanish Club to accomplish this year?

Mrs. Martinez: A better understanding of the Spanish culture.

Mrs. Rivas: Learning the Spanish culture, and how to dance.
