Spirit Week

Hawthorne High School spirit week is said to be the best week of high school. Every year almost every kid in every grade, goes all out, hoping to  win the competition: but knowing that the seniors will win. But that doesn’t stop the other students from showing their school spirit. This year themes were Merica Monday, Tacky Tourist Tuesday, Workout Wednesday, Color Thursday, and Blue and White Friday.

At the beginning of the week freshman pulled ahead to 3rd place, but soon fell back to 4th place. While the seniors and juniors have remained in 1st and 2nd the whole week. At the beginning of the month students started to get ready for the hallway decorating contest. On Thursday afternoon many students from all grades stayed after to help their grade level decorate their hallway. Some students stayed for maybe an hour or two, while others stayed till 9 o’clock.

Students worked all night, hoping to get the 100 points to help their grade out. On Friday morning when the students entered, their hallways were transformed into Pac Man (freshman), New York (sophomore), Wizard of Oz ( juniors), and SpongeBob (seniors).  All students and teachers, wearing blue and white, walked through the halls amazed. All the hard work of students were simply paid off.

When last period came, everyone was anxiously awaiting  the announcement of who won the Spirit Week competition. It was a tight competition the whole week so no one knew who was going to place where. Finally, the anticipated  announcement came. The judges judged and the points were tallied up. Once they said who won cheers let out through all classrooms. And the winner for the best decorated hallway was……. In first place the juniors, in second place the seniors, in third place the freshman, and last place went to the sophomores.
