Italian Language and Culture Day
June 1, 2018
On Thursday, March 15, 2018, Mrs. Marisa Fusaro’s Italian 4 Honors and AP classes went to Montclair State University to compete in the Italian Language and Culture Day. During the last few weeks, Fusaro’s students have been working nonstop to prepare their skit. Students, including Aimee Alvino and Carly Weinstein have been working hard making all the props, including: Giulietta’s mailbox and a cafe counter.
Their skit was called “Lettere a Giulietta”, which was about a young boy, Roberto (portrayed by Alexander Di Filippo), who worked at a coffee shop and fell in love with a girl, Giuliana (portrayed by Daniella Bonafede), who frequently visited the shop. Roberto asked the Giulietta Club for advice in this matter, writing the club letters not knowing that Giuliana worked at the Giulietta club. Giuliana answered Roberto’s letters and gave him advice.
However, there are many other characters that get in Roberto’s way from talking to Giuliana and she is never able to see Roberto’s romantic gestures. At the end of the skit, Roberto gave Giuliana a cappuccino with a heart in it, where at this point, she realized that he had been writing the letters all along and they lived happily ever after.
Throughout and after the skits, the judges discussed and debated which groups would be the top three finalists. Hawthorne High School’s skit, “Lettere a Giulietta”, scored second place from the judges and scored first place for student choice.
Mrs. Marisa Fusaro was thrilled and very proud of all of her students for their success in the competition.
