Highlights from the 10th Annual Hawthorne Day

Sierra Van Houten, Editor

Every year our town holds an event at the Hawthorne pool and field behind the pool to celebrate our town.

Many people come out to enjoy the festivities. There are usually lots of different vendors, places to eat, bounce houses for kids, and little shows and activities. Here are some of the highlights of Hawthorne Day.

Let’s start with all of the different rides and activities for kids. There were a variety of different bounce houses so kids could jump for hours. This year there was also a rock wall for kids to climb. Next, there was a mini petting zoo for the kids. Children were able to climb in the pen with the bunnies and chickens. However, they were not allowed to go in with the bigger animals. Lastly they had pony rides for kids so they could feel like real cowboys and cowgirls.

Next, there was a lot of live music to listen to. They had music to please everyone because it covered every genre. It began with “The Nerds” who were covering some of the best classic rock songs ever recorded. Later on that night the “Flying Mueller Brothers” performed, who are always a big hit with the kids because they get them heavily involved. They were also the last band that performed and that led into the firework display.

Lastly, there was a beautiful fireworks display that lit up the night sky with gorgeous colors. The fireworks were set to a playlist of music that focused on patriotism with songs such as “I’m Proud to be an American” and “The Star Spangled Banner”. The fireworks were set off by the fire department and were launched straight into the Hawthorne night sky.

There you have it, some of the most popular highlights of Hawthorne Day. This Hawthorne Day was more special than the others because it is a celebration of this event for 10 consecutive years. Yes, that is right Hawthorne Day has been going on consecutively for a decade. If you want to join in on the fun next year, Hawthorne Day will be held on September 21, 2019.
