Hawthorne High School’s New Changes

Aya Outhman, Staff Writer

This school year there are a few rules at Hawthorne High School that have changed.

Students now have permission to use cell phones in the hallways with a few exceptions, such as no phone calls.  Although you are allowed to use your cell phone during passing time, the same rule as last year remains that headphones are not to be worn around school, along with no cell phone usage during class time.

The reason headphones are not allowed to be worn in the hallways is for safety reasons. Teachers and staff at HHS want students to be cautious and to pay attention to their surroundings, such as other students in the hallways or announcements over the intercom. With headphones on, you can miss important announcements including safety drills.

Another thing that has changed within the school is assigned lockers. This school year every student is assigned a specific locker to themselves. This is so everything is organized and the administrators know whose locker belongs to whom.  Now the school plans to do random locker checks, in order to ensure the safety of the students and to make sure your lockers do not have any illegal items within them.
