The Hawthorne High School Marching Bears overall placed 5th at the New Jersey State Championships this Wednesday.

18 bands competed from all over the state, all varying in size. This competition was rescheduled from last Sunday due to heavy rain. Hawthorne performed at 5:40 PM at Hillsborough High School.

Hawthorne faced off against five other bands in their size category: Hamilton High School West, Nottingham High School, Weehawken High School , Warren Hills Regional High School and Bayonne High School. Hawthorne performed third after Hamilton High School West and Nottingham High School. Hawthorne’s color guard placed second, ahead of the main portion of the marching band.

Hawthorne only has one competition left which is being held in New Jersey this year in Old Bridge. This will complete the main marching band season which has been running since July. After the main competition season is over, the band will begin preparing for the holiday parade taking place on December 7th and their winter concert on December 18th.
