Hawthorne Tennis Sweeps Lodi for First Victory!

After a summer full of socially distanced practices and much uncertainty surrounding the 2020 season, the HHS tennis team finally played their first match on Monday, September 28th. The away match against Lodi resulted in Hawthorne’s first victory, swiftly defeating Lodi by a score of 5-0.

The girls tennis team lineup consisted of Casey Campagne, Ava Tower, Abby Kedl, Ella Perini, Kaitlyn Maskal, Hailey Liberti, and Gabriela Sandoval. The all senior starting team made quick work or their opponent, only allowing them to win one single game overall. First singles player Casey Campagne started off the match with a swift 6-1, 6-4 victory. That win was followed by Abby Kedl’s 6-0, 6-1 victory at third singles. The first doubles team, composed of Ella Perini and Kaitlyn Maskal, swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Second doubles players Hailey Liberti and Gabriela Sandoval also won their match 6-0, 6-0. Second singles player Ava Tower played a tough match, and eventually emerged victorious, besting her Lodi opponent in 2 out of 3 games.

Overall, the girls played a great match, and should be very proud of themselves, as well as excited for the rest of the season to come. Good luck girls tennis team!
