Spring sports have officially started, and that means lacrosse will be around for all to watch. Lacrosse has been a sport since the 1100’s, created by the Native Americans.

It was used for settling tribal disputes, toughening up warriors, recreation, and religious reasons. In 1800, the sport started to turn up in Canadian colleges. It then progressed by becoming a Major League Sport.

On the other hand, lacrosse has only existed at Hawthorne High school for 10 years.

The Clarion decided to ask Coach Carr, the head coach of lacrosse a few questions so we could find out a little more about the sport.

The Clarion: What made you become the head coach of lacrosse?

Coach Carr: The reason I wanted to be the head coach is to help develop the program, as well as the athletes who were interested in playing!

The Clarion:  Do you think the team will be successful this year?

Coach Carr: I think we will have success this year! We are a younger team, but we have skill and talent where we need it.

The Clarion: What is your favorite part about coaching?

Coach Carr: I truly enjoy coaching and being able to coach players of all skill levels. Watching each individual player grow is the best part.

Coach Carr was a great help in finding out a little more about what he does as a head coach and how he keeps the team prepared. Make sure to support the HHS Bears lacrosse team during their spring season! Go Bears!
