Where is the library? What do I do during lunch? Where is Mrs.DiGeronimo?
Many changes have been taking place since the start of the school year. One of them is the Hawthorne High School’s Library Media Center which has recently been under construction since the summer of 2023.
The Clarion sat down with Mrs. DiGeronimo to get an insight on the work that is being done.
This started way back in 2019 when the town approved the funding for a facilities update of all schools in the Hawthorne district. The Clarion got a glimpse into the project’s updates and was dazed with the progress that has been made so far. It will feature all-new furniture including a seating area near the window for students to admire the skyline and get work done.
There will be a classroom for Mrs. DiGeronimo’s instruction, and a spacious layout that encourages collaboration and creativity. The former makerspace area now is our eSports center with state-of-the-art technology for gaming competitions.
Also, there will be new books of all genres located in the center of the library with a warm fireplace where students can cozy up, read, and enjoy a peaceful reading environment all tied together with the school colors.
As of now, the school administration hopes to have the Library Media Center construction completed by mid-October. In the meantime, Mrs.DiGeronimo has been temporarily relocated to room 123, the “New Cafe.”
She has established a “Pop Up Library” in this temporary space, where students can access books, magazines, and resources while the construction is ongoing. Study Hall is located there as well and students are able to utilize the space for quiet studying and completing assignments.
The renovation of the Hawthorne High School Library Media Center will bring significant improvements and exciting changes for students. This new chapter for Hawthorne High School is pivotal in enhancing educational experiences and promoting a culture of learning.
The staff and student body want to give special thanks to the residents of Hawthorne who voted for the Referendum, our Board of Education, our Superintendent, our Administration, and Mrs. DiGeronimo for their commitment and dedication in making this renovation project a reality.
