Despite the rain, Hawthorne residents still showed up to celebrate the holiday season together at this year’s annual tree lighting and Santa parade on Friday, December 1.

The night started off with the parade featuring familiar characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Elmo, the Grinch, Mario, and others. Appearances were also made by Hawthorne students including the soccer teams and HHS band.

Children eagerly awaited the arrival of Santa at the Borough Hall, and had the opportunity to meet with him and take pictures inside after the tree lighting.

Hawthorne Mayor John Lane spoke some words before counting down to the most exciting moment of the night. Friends and family gathered around to witness the lighting of the tree, and were provided with refreshments such as hot chocolate, hot pretzels, and brownies.

Even though it was rainy, a good amount of people came out to share in the holiday spirit, and the night was an exciting way to kick off the month of December.
