On February 26, Hawthorne High School will host its annual blood drive in the small gymnasium lasting all day. This event provides an opportunity for the school community to come together and make an impact on the lives of others. The blood drive is organized in collaboration with the healthcare company Vitalant, who helps gather communities to make much-needed donations of blood or plasma.
These donations will support hospital patients through traumatic injuries, surgery recovery, and chemotherapy.
Students aged 16 and over are encouraged to participate by donating their blood. While donating they will be provided with a guide on how to make their donation as comfortable as possible for themselves. They will also receive a snack and beverage post-donation and will be advised to stay for around 15 minutes so their bodies can adjust to the change.
Permission slips are due on February 15 (today!) to Ms. Russo, and any students interested in participating who have not received a signup sheet already can get them in her room.
