It’s back to school again and it’s a new school year for the freshmen here at Hawthorne High School. Having to leave a school they were so familiar with, like the Lincoln Middle School, is hard. Not to mention all of the new teachers and students they’re going to meet. It’s definitely a nerve racking experience.
However, according to most students, they are adapting quite easily. “Navigating the school gets easy once you get the layout,” one freshman said.
They are also enjoying their new freedom of being able to use their phones since students from LMS were never allowed to have them.
“I like being able to use my phone during lunch and study hall,” Massimo Ruta, a freshman at HHS, said.
Freshmen also appreciate the ability to choose their classes. “Now I can actually take classes I enjoy,” Cole, another freshman, said.
Freshman year is when you have the most opportunities to try new classes, sports, and clubs. Some freshmen are taking the opportunity to check out every activity to do in school. This is also a great way to connect with people with similar interests and make new friends.
In general, the 9th graders have settled in quickly and are excited for what their future at HHS holds.
