It’s getting to that time of year for seniors when the only thing people ask them about is college. Finishing resumes, going on college tours, and finishing applications has been at the forefront of most seniors’ minds right now. It’s a stressful time for sure.
Some things that seniors are focusing on right now are finishing their applications and attending in-school college visits. They are lucky to have the advantage of meeting colleges in school and getting the information they need about the colleges they are thinking of applying to. It’s also nice to get free swag.
The things seniors should be thinking of doing are applying for scholarships and to apply for financial aid before December 1. It’s so important to take all the money you can get for college because it is not cheap, especially if you’re planning on going out of state. However most people in HHS are planning on staying in state. Some popular colleges students are applying to this year are Montclair University, Rutgers, Ramapo, and Seton Hall. Predominant majors that I see a lot of people taking are nursing, business, and psychology.
Most students say the hardest thing for them throughout this whole process has been finding colleges that meet their means whether it’s geographically or financially. It’s hard to find a good college that fits your needs while also being affordable-ish.
While everyone’s a little scared to take this next big step, it’s still really exciting. It allows students to explore new experiences while preparing for future careers. Similarly, it gives them the chance to enter new extracurriculars and gives them a sense of freedom that they did not have prior to graduating high school. All in all, preparing for college may be rough, but the future opportunities are well worth it.
