The date most awaited by many has arrived—when, finally, the weeks can be counted on the fingers of one hand. And here at Hawthorne High School students are anxiously awaiting the start of many of the end of the year activities. Especially Seniors, who will be participating in the “SENIOR SUPERSTAR”.
The “Senior Superstars” consists of several groups. Students are given the choice of spectating the game or being part of it. Each group has to come up with a team captain, both girl and boy as well as team color, which students will be wearing on this day. Each year a new t-shirt design can be created by one of the fellow students, and the best design wins.
This year the 5 main games will be the obstacle course, volleyball, foul shooting, tug of war, and running relay: it’s the flexibility to not feel pressured of doing something they might not want or are not good at.
The rules of the games are as follows: each event is set in a double elimination bracket, if one team keeps winning, they can keep playing. If the team loses once, they get put in the “losers bracket”. If they lose twice, that group is done with that specific event for the day. This means that each group has a guarantee of 2 games for each of the 5 games.
These activities allow Seniors to have fun with their friends. Connecting with each other one last time before graduation and prom. It’s like being kids again for the last time, before the doors to the real world open up.
