I recently sent out a survey using Google Forms to students, asking them about their favorite class and why they enjoy it.
Not surprisingly, Physical Education received the most votes, with 28.6% of students choosing it as their favorite class. The reasons varied, but many students said they enjoy PE because it is fun and because they have friends in the class. Some responses were simple, while others emphasized the social aspect of the class.
The second most popular class was History, which received 22.7% of the votes. Similar to PE, students said they enjoy History because it is interesting and engaging. Many also mentioned that they like the teachers who teach the subject, as well as the classmates they are with during that period.
Science and Math were tied for third place, each receiving 9.1% of the votes. The reasons for choosing these classes were consistent with earlier responses—students appreciated the teachers and enjoyed being with their friends. Following that, electives and English each received 4.5% of the votes, with similar explanations from students.
Overall, the survey revealed an interesting pattern: the subject itself is not always the most important factor for students. Instead, what matters most is the classroom environment. Students value having friends in their classes and teachers who are engaging, supportive, and interactive. These factors appear to play a major role in shaping students’ enjoyment of a class.
