On Saturday May 9, 2026 and Sunday May 10, 2026 the HHS Dance team competed in their very first competition, winning High Gold. Mrs Sonia, their choreographer and teacher, choreographed many beautiful and strong dances helping the team win 1st place. The HHS clarion interviewed 2 of their senior dancers, Natalie Wolfe and Brynn Bushoven.
The Clairon: How does it feel to win 1st place?
Brynn: It feels good to be rewarded for the dedication and time we put into our dances. We have been working towards this since we got back from winter break, along with many other dance / theatre pieces that were in our spring concert. I am excited for my underclassmen friends who get to carry on our winning team.
Natalie: It feels incredibly rewarding and very exciting to know that our hard work and dedication paid off. I know that this will motivate my peers on the team even more to keep shooting high.
The Clarion: What was your favorite part of the competition?
Brynn: Competition was so fun to do with my friends and Ms. Sonia. I love that I got to make this memory with them.
Natalie: I found it to be a lot of fun to watch the improv battle. There was a little girl on stage who was no older than four who entered, she was ADORABLE!
The Clarion: What was your favorite part of the dance you competed with?
Brynn: The costumes definitely made it so much more fun but choreography wise, I love the really fast parts. They are the high energy and exciting parts of the dance.
Natalie: I really enjoyed the beginning of the dance when I was sitting with my friends and we were pretending to do our nails and braid our hair, I always had a lot of fun acting.
The Clarion: How does it feel now that you’re graduating out of the dance team?
Brynn: I will miss it so much next year. Ms. Sonia has been more than just a dance teacher, but also a huge part of my time at Hawthorne High School. I have made so many memories and friendships through this team. I am grateful to be graduating knowing I got to have so many opportunities to do what I love.
Natalie: It is definitely bittersweet but I am also excited knowing that I have been well equipped, thanks to Mrs. Sonia, with new skills and technique that I can carry with me to my future endeavors.
