Ford F-150 Pickup Truck

Traditionally, most cars and trucks are made from a steel and a combination of many plastics and metals, but the new 2015 Ford F-150 is being primarily constructed out of aluminum. The 2014 F-150 is made primarily out of high-strength steel, for the traditional “Ford Tough” name. Skeptics questioned the new aluminum truck since steel is higher quality and more durable than aluminum. A safety test conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) tested those skeptics, and proved them wrong.

In this case, Ford tough means safety. The 2015 aluminum F-150 has been given a five-star safety rating, the highest safety rating possible. The NHTSA gave the new F-150 a five star rating for front-impact, side-impact, and pole crashes. The truck was then given a four-star rating for rollover worthiness, which beats the 2014 Ford F-150.

Ford will continue to produce and sell the original steel constructed F-150 this year, along with the innovative aluminum one too. Sales have already been up 2.3 percent this year according to Ford.
