Just before two college football teams, Oklahoma State and Kansas University, were set to play on Saturday, October 24, 2015, a woman drove her car into a crowded homecoming parade at Oklahoma State University. The woman, Adacia Chambers, 25, drove her Hyundai into the crowd at 10:30 a.m., resulting in 4 deaths and an estimated 46 people injured. One of the victims killed in the crash was a two year old child.

Chambers is currently being held on a million dollars bond, and faces second-degree murder charges as well as a DUI. Chambers had been in a handful of mental institutions throughout her life, but was released from all of them. Her attorney, Tony Coleman, claims that a mental illness, not intoxication, was the cause behind her decision. Prosecutors have since motioned for any records of her mental health to be sealed.

Laura Thomas, the District Attorney for the case, believes that by speaking publicly about Chambers’ mental health, Coleman is trying to influence potential jurors before the trial even begins. Just prior to the crash, Chambers supposedly said that she was “going home forever.” A witness to the crash and former EMT, Nathan Oglesby, was one of the first people to attend to Chambers. According to Oglesby, “I opened the door and asked her how she was doing. I then asked what she was doing, and she told me she was trying to kill herself.”

Before the game began, the Oklahoma State team took a moment of silence to remember those who were affected by the crash. Chambers’ hearing is set for November 13th.

Police have come forward stating that a Bible containing handwritten notes, a laptop, tablet, and computer hard drive were taken as evidence from Chambers’ home. It has not yet been released what the notes said, or if any other evidence has been found on the devices.

Chambers allegedly told police during the booking process that she had a history of suicide attempts, and that she was suicidal at the time of the crash.
