A Quick Political Thought: A Dead Gorilla for President?

Melissa Martin, Staff Writer

Many people voted on November 8, Election Day 2016. The outcome of course, was a Donald Trump presidency.

If you assumed that on that day, people chose and eventually voted for either Republican candidate Donald Trump or Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, you would be wrong.

If you said, “oh that’s right”, there were two other candidates on the Presidential ticket….you would have to be stopped right there. Yes. Gary Johnson and Jill Stein DID receive votes as well.

What you do not know is that some didn’t vote for any of the candidates mentioned above. Instead these people voted for a dead gorilla named Harambe. Harambe, if you recall, was a gorilla who was shot and killed at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden after a three year old child accidentally fell into his enclosure.

With his votes counted, Harambe had 11,000 votes for him to be president.

11,000 people voted for a dead gorilla. We’ll let that sink in. This generation is something else.
