Severe storms killed 5 people this past week in Alabama and Tennessee and the whole part of the Southeast was set to go under a tornado watch, until late this week. In Northeastern Alabama, a tornado killed 3 people killed early Wednesday according to authorities. Later, two people were confirmed dead in Tennessee. Three others in Alabama were in critical condition after a daycare center was “demolished” according to the National Weather Service. Known as a 24-hour daycare, fortunately it was not open when the storm hit.

The owners hid in the building for cover. Later 3 adults and 3 children were sent to the hospital. At least 25 homes were also destroyed across DeKalb County. The three fatalities were reported near Highway 71 in Rosalie, Alabama, located in neighboring Jackson County, the National Weather Service said. All three victims died in 1 home.

A Baptist church and a plaza were among the 15 to 20 buildings in Rosalie that were destroyed just after midnight local time (1 a.m.). The next band of storms stretched from the coast of Louisiana, across Mississippi and Alabama and then into Georgia. New Orleans was among the cities under a tornado watch on  Wednesday as well.

Between tornado watches and heavy rain, people from Louisiana through western North Carolina were under severe weather risk.
