20 Lucky Winners

Imagine winning $420.9 million dollars. What could one individual possibly do with all this money? Luckily, a group of 20 co-workers recently won the Powerball Jackpot. They were officially acknowledged the winners  by the Tennessee Lottery officials on November 29, 2016 in Nashville, Tennessee. This came as a surprise for many of these 20 co-workers because none of them expected to become rich overnight. For the most part, many of these people who had won, lived normal lives. Never in a million years did any of them expect to actually win.

Amy O’Neal, who is one of the lucky 20 winners, had always been the one to buy the tickets for the group. She was unaware that she had been the holder of the winning ticket that Saturday night and did not bother to check to see if they had won. Instead, she went to bed and did not think much of it. The next morning, she was quickly awoken by her son and husband who were trying to explain to her that someone from their hometown, Lafayette, had purchased the winning lottery ticket. When grabbing the third ticket she had bought, she could not believe her eyes. Shock had quickly come over her, not knowing if this could possibly be true. It all felt like a whole big dream that she still had to wake up from. Once this news had settled in, she quickly called up her co-workers to tell them that they had all won. When telling them, they all had the same reaction. They did not believe her at first, but joy and happiness soon overcame each of the 20 co-workers.

The friendship between these 20 co-workers began when they started working at the North American Stamping Group, which is an auto-manufacturing plant located in Tennessee. When working together, they always pitched in a total of $120 worth of lottery tickets every Wednesday and Saturday to help show their support towards the schools and state. The winners of the Powerball Jackpot had been playing together 8 consecutive years. In fact, they called themselves, “The Tennessee 20.” When receiving their winning money from the lottery, each person walked away with approximately $12. 7 million dollars. Each and everyone of them were so grateful to have won this amount of money, still in shock.

At the end of a recent interview, arranged by USA TODAY, Steve Hoffman had stated, “ Now we can do more and help more. There’s going to be a lot of people blessed.”

We can see that the Tennessee 20 will surely make a positive change within their community and many others. Congratulations to these lucky 20 co-workers!
