Where’s the Spirit?

“Two, four, six, eight, who do we appreciate?” Seriously, who do we appreciate?

It seems to me that Hawthorne has so much school spirit in September and close to none the rest of the year. We have one Pep Rally and one Spirit Week, and they’re focused on fall sports only. What about the winter sports? And the sports in the spring? Why don’t we show spirit for them?

“I think every Friday should be Blue and White Day just so we can show our colors and spread our spirit,” said Olivia Meier, sophomore at HHS.

Maybe if there was something to look forward to at the end of the week, like a Pep Rally or a school dance, students would be less resistant about coming to school. If the faculty had more activities and school events that students were actually interested in then that could make our experience at HHS more exciting and memorable.

Some students here don’t know about all of our sports teams and clubs. I, for one, didn’t know we had an Ecology Club until a few months ago. Some of my friends didn’t know we had a bowling team, and I’m on it. That just shows the lack of spirit our school has.

We need more school spirit to support and represent our teams so we can truly “Bleed Blue.”
