As a senior in Hawthorne High School, I would like to personally welcome our new vice principal Dario Sforza. I’m hoping he finds a home here and stays for a while.
This senior class has had four different vice principals since I arrived as a freshman. I personally have spent a lot of time with each VP and got to know each one. First, we had vice Principal Kurt Karcich. He was a great VP who had a lot of his own rules. When I was a sophomore, we welcomed Daniel La Grone who we thought would be staying for a while. Unfortunately after Christmas break he left, due to a personal family matter. Barry Cohen took over for him. Last year, my junior year, we finally had what we thought, was a steady VP in Patrick McQueeney. Sadly, he left us just this year.
Although every VP was great in his own way, the turnover does have a negative effect on our class. Each one took time to warm up to me and the rest of my class. Spending so much time with each one helped me to see that they all have their own attitudes towards students and rules. But it’s hard to keep adjusting to new people and new rules. Some things I couldn’t have gotten away with for the one, I could get away with another.
I know it’s hard to be a new VP coming into a school, and I hope Mr. Sforza finds HHS a good fit for his discipline style and stays years after I graduate.
