Have you ever been cut from a high school sports team? Well if you have, you’re not alone.
Millions of teenagers across the country get cut all the time, even though some of them have potential talent. That’s what happened to players like Michael Jordan and Jeremy Lin who didn’t make their high school basketball teams.
The real problem with being cut from a team occurs when high school students treat being cut like it’s the end of the world. When students don’t make the team, they assume they have no talent so they stop playing. Teenagers should stop taking a cut so seriously. Not making a team should push young athletes who love the sport to strive to do better
“It really stinks when you don’t make the team or someone that’s not as good as you takes your place, said Olivia Meier, sophomore at HHS. “But you really just have to learn to take it and use that as motivation to get better.”
Not every single person who tries out is going to make the team. But the athlete who can take criticism well, has good sportsmanship, and a good attitude won’t back away from a sport that he/she loves, but will strive to get better and make the team next time.
