Terrorism: An Opinion

Gregory Berjian, Staff Writer

Terrorist groups are abundant in this year of 2017. Groups include Al-Qaedea, Boko Haram, and ISIS. These groups have one common goal: to strike fear into those who “oppose them.” We now have terrorist organizations on most continents around the world.

All of these organizations use religion and twist it to their sinister ways. Al-Qaedea, Boko Haram, and ISIS all believe in non-women’s suffrage. These girls are sexually assaulted, severely mutilated, and if they are still alive, mentally scarred for life. These women and girls are innocent civilians who have done nothing wrong whatsoever.

Terrorists groups brainwash their members into only believing radicalism. This is a very similar tactic that was used by Adolf Hitler’s SS. The SS would similarly murder those who were not fit to be part of the “Aryan Race.” That was in 1945. Now, 72 years later, worldwide we face the same issue, but to the extremes.

The people who join these groups, destroy their family structures. They are willing to commit acts against humanity for fun. This is a very serious problem, as the human brain typically will do all in its power to achieve its goal, by any means necessary.

These members kind of resemble a schoolyard bully. They are insecure, or need a loving family. They are willing to join these groups, as a means of getting a family, even if it means committing atrocities against others. They feel they are doing nothing wrong because they have been brainwashed by fellow members.

Terrorism not only affects people living in these countries, but it affects everyone on a global scale. This affects the stock market, the military and what a country spends on its military. Millions are fighting these groups worldwide and many good people are dying. We need to eliminate the ideals of terrorism at hand, rather than members of these organizations.
