The Possible Future of AI: An Opinion

The Future of A.I.

As we all probably know by now, we are living in a new era: the AI era.

To some it may seem like a dream come true while to others it’s a nightmare turned into reality. Some can say that some games like Detroit: Become Human or movies like Terminator or even Wall-E predicted AI taking over the world.

At this point in history, we’ve probably only scratched the surface of the true potential of AI. Right now we know the famous ChatGPT, capable of typing up a whole essay for you in mere seconds. There are other AI bots that are capable of making someone sound like they said something they didn’t actually say and others capable of creating images just from words. While the limits are endless, at some point we should draw a line before it’s too late.

Taking an international perspective, the war in Ukraine has shown the use of drone warfare at its highest extent. This could be foreshadowing what warfare might look like decades from now. And with the introduction of sophisticated AI, who wouldn’t want to use it as a combat role? I can already see rules being put into the Geneva Convention. Nobody knows what the future holds, but we can predict. My predictions are that concepts of AI and drone warfare are going to collide and make AI drone warfare a thing.

Looking back in history, nearly every major war in the 20th century has introduced or used a new concept never used before. WW1 introduced the concept of trench warfare AND chemical warfare as well as the introduction of the first ever sub-machine guns.

WW2 introduced the concept of atomic warfare as well as multiple forms of military doctrines and the introduction of the first weapon to be considered an assault rifle. As we can see both world wars introduced a new concept and new weapons to wage war with.

Luckily for us we have a Geneva Convention because of the events that took place in WW1. But, considering the fact that both world wars introduced new things never used before, what would future global conflicts introduce? We can only hope and pray that we don’t find out soon.
