At some point in our lives we will all have to study for something, whether it be memorizing terms and definitions or a big exam needing to know all the details of the material. Here is a helpful list of my top ten study tips to get you through it.
- Don’t wait until the last minute. Put time aside for studying, don’t study the night before or pull an all-nighter. This will only add more stress and your brain may not be able to absorb all of the information in such a short amount of time.
- Go to extra help if the topic is difficult to understand. Teacher’s are usually willing to help, whether it be one on one or in a group setting. They would rather you express your concerns than for you to pretend you understand what is going on.
- Set goals for yourself, make a timeline of when you want to hit these goals and try your best to stick to it.
- Try to stay off your phone and social media while studying. It can be distracting and take you away from your studying time. It will also take more time to finish studying depending on how much time was wasted.
- Take breaks, if you feel you are getting tired or exhausted while studying it is okay to take a break and take your mind off of it. If it is getting late it is good to go to sleep and get back to studying the next day. This will help relieve stress and improve your focus.
- Having a dedicated study space can help you stay focused and organized. Make sure it is comfortable and well lit and if possible somewhere private so you have less interruptions.
- Studying alone is not always the answer and it can be helpful to study in groups. Not only will it make it more enjoyable, but it can help you improve your study habits and help you grasp the material faster.
- Test yourself using practice quizzes and questions. This will help you pinpoint the areas that need more attention.
- Eating well and drinking plenty of water will give your brain the fuel it needs to focus.
- Reward yourself, having something to look forward to will give you motivation to push forward.
Try not to stress yourself out, your grades do not define you. As long as you put your best foot forward you should be proud of yourself. Good luck and Happy Studying!
