Hawthorne High School: home of the HHS Bears. Here we have plenty of new students, new activities, events, as well as new teachers. One of those new teachers is Ms. Jamie Wandel. Ms. Wandel was kind enough to allow The Clarion to interview her for this article.

The Clarion: What is your name?

Ms. Wandel: My name is Jamie Wandel.

The Clarion: What do you teach here at Hawthorne High School?

Ms. Wandel: I teach Intro to Art and Intermediate Art classes here at HHS.

The Clarion: Where did you go to college? What did you major in?

Ms. Wandel: I studied at Aquinas College and received my Bachelors of Arts in Studio Art and Art History. I also studied at the University of Glasgow and received my Masters of Science in Museum Education.

The Clarion: What are some of your favorite things to do?

Ms. Wandel: Some of my favorite things to do are listening to audiobooks, cooking, playing tennis, and travelling!

The Clarion: What is your favorite food?

Ms. Wandel: I don’t necessarily have a favorite food but at the moment I am obsessed with garlic eggplant.

The Clarion: Where have you travelled? What did you do over the summer?

Ms. Wandel: I love travelling! I travelled to China, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Italy, Tunisia, and Mexico…over the summer, I actually moved here to New Jersey!

The Clarion: Why did you choose to major in art? And why did you choose to teach art?

Ms. Wandel: I chose art because I’ve always loved painting and drawing…I chose to teach art to give students the tools needed to express themselves creatively and to develop aesthetic awareness!
