The new school year is now two months old. The Clarion felt that it was a good time to check in with the HHS Freshmen to see how the school year is going so far. The Clarion had the pleasure of interviewing Freshman Sandra Wietecha to ask her about her first two months at Hawthorne High School.
Clarion: How has your high school experience been so far, and what new changes from what middle school was like?
Sandra: “High school is pretty fun! I like the freedom…I like to hang around during lunch, and not have to sit inside or have to go outside”
Clarion: If you had to pick between high school and middle school which one would you pick?
Sandra: “I’d pick high school, plus it’s better in general. I like my teachers and I get to hang out with my friends from other grades. I also like that our schedule rotates since it creates diversity and you’re not stuck with a certain schedule especially if you don’t like it.”
Clarion: Do you think that people exaggerate high school?
Sandra: “Yeah, I think people over exaggerated high school. They made it seem like such a big deal and al…but it’s not. It’s pretty relaxed so far as of my freshmen year”
Clarion: What do you hope to achieve by the end of this year?
Sandra: “I hope to have good friends and great grades by the end of the year.”
Clarion: What challenges have you faced in your first few months?
Sandra: “Some challenges I faced in these first few months were probably figuring out my schedule. I wasn’t used to the rotating schedule and the different times of the period/blocks. But in general, getting around the school was pretty easy to figure out thanks to the room numbers.”
Clarion: How do you balance school work with your free time?
Sandra: “I balance my schoolwork with my free time by trying to get everything done either in class or during lunch or my study hall. If I don’t finish any of those times in school, I just try to finish homework as soon as I get home and when I get the time.”
Thank you, Sandra, for answering these questions and participating in this interview. I hope this interview gave some insight into how the school year has been so far for the freshmen students here at HHS.
