Stanley Cup: Who Will Win?

In this year’s Stanley Cup, the sixth seed New Jersey Devils face off against an even lower seeded team, the eighth seed Los Angeles Kings.

As of now, the Kings are leading the series 3-2 over the Devils.  The Kings beat the Devils twice in overtime on the road.  Then they played home only to defeat the Devils again 4-0.  It seemed as if they were going to sweep the Devils with four wins in a row, but the Devils stayed alive with a 3-1 victory over the Kings in L.A. and then another victory at home.

Many believe the Devils have flipped the series.  They have won two games in a row, and the first two games that the Devils lost in overtime easily could have went their way.  Resch, a television analyst for the Devils, is quoted in an article from USA Today saying, “This series has flipped. When you come back from 0-3, which doesn’t happen very often, things have to happen. You have to be as good as the team you are playing. They can’t be better than you. If they are better, they are going to have the ability to turn it on and you are just not going to be able to handle them.”

The Kings are the second eighth-seed team to make it to the Stanley Cup in NHL history; the eighth seed Edmonton Oilers made it to the Stanley Cup back in 2006 .  Before the Oilers and the Kings, the lowest seed to ever make it to the Stanley Cup was the fifth seed New Jersey Devils in 1994.  The difference between the Kings and the Oilers is that the Kings can be the first eighth seed to win a Stanley Cup.

The Devils and the Kings will face off tonight, Monday June 11.  Which team will walk away victorious?
