Megan Lane, 2002 HHS alumni, is Hawthorne High School’s new head coach for the 2012-2013 girls basketball team. Lane is “very excited to be back in Hawthorne.”
Lane played basketball throughout all four years in high school and achieved 1000 points in 2002, which landed her a spot on one of the banners currently placed in the high school gym. She says her philosophy for the current varsity team is to “get better everyday… if we improve than we have gained success.” She also advises her girls to “let everything go” and to “get to know each other.”
Before coming to HHS to coach, Lane was the assistant coach for the women’s college basketball team for 5 years at Keene State College in New Hampshire. She was also the assistant coach for one year at Springfield College in Massachusetts.
Currently, Lane is the social studies teacher for sixth and eight grades at Lincoln Middle School in Hawthorne. She attended Keene State College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in history secondary education. She also obtained a master’s degree in athletic administration at Springfield College.
On the personal level, Lane has one younger brother, and she enjoys spending time with family, watching basketball and being outdoors hiking or being active. Her favorite food is any kind of sandwich, specifically chicken Parmesan, and her favorite soup is French onion.
HHS Bear’s girls varsity basketball season opener is Friday, December, 14, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at Eastern Christian High School.
