Standout baseball star, Jimmy Contrini, got his unofficial 100th hit on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, against rival, Manchester Regional High School.
Contrini, the only four-year varsity starter for the Bears, had 97 hits going into the final regular season game. He went 3-5 against the Falcons, reaching the milestone with his third hit, a single to left-field in the seventh inning.
Although there has been no official confirmation from the athletic department, Jim Contrini, Contrini’s father and coach, has been keeping his son’s statistics since his freshman year. He said of his son, “I think it is a huge accomplishment. It’s like a basketball player getting 1000 points. It’s very rare.”
When asked about his record accomplishment, Contrini replied, “My goal since the beginning of the season was to win a lot of games and finish my career with 100 hits.”
He finished his high school baseball career with 101 hits, after getting his final hit in a loss to Pequannock in the NJSIAA State Quarter Finals on Monday, May 27, 2013.
Contrini plans to continue his baseball career at SUNY Cortland where he is attending college in the fall.
