Girls Varsity Soccer: Update & Interview

Meagan Scherer, Staff Writer

The Hawthorne High School’s girls varsity soccer team has been successful in the first half of their season, with a record of 9-0-1. The team’s major victories were against powerhouse teams Pompton Lakes, Rutherford, and Eastern Christian. With no losses, a tie to Glen Rock, and a recent county game win against PCTI, it is clear that the Bears are the team to beat. Their next county game is this Saturday, October 8th, against Wayne Valley, and fans can be sure that the girls will give it their all. The seniors this year are: Alyssa Caradonna, Mackenzie Conroy, Bailey Hansen, Madison Noordeloos, Meagan Scherer, and Samantha Slootmaker.  As this year’s captains, they play a crucial role in the team’s success. The Clarion asked the girls some questions, and received some great feedback.

Clarion Reporter: This is your last year playing for the HHS Bears on the girl’s varsity soccer team. How do you feel about that?

Madison Noordeloos: It’s a bittersweet feeling. It’s sad to think that four years have passed so quickly, but we are having an amazing season so far, which is an exciting way to end my high school soccer career.

Clarion Reporter: What qualities do you think a good captain should have? How do you think you and the other seniors are doing at leading the team?

Samantha Slootmaker: A good captain needs to have control and the ability to lead while still being caring. We need to get stuff done, but we can still have fun. For the seniors, we are doing a great job leading the team. We encourage the girls and keep things in order.

Clarion Reporter: The girls have a long way to go before the season ends. Do you have any advice for them?

Bailey Hansen: My advice is to give 110% in every game and high intensity for every play. To continue to do well this season, we need to keep our energy level up and work hard in games and especially at practice.

The Clarion wishes the girls the best of luck for the remainder of the season.
