October 15, 2019
The New York Yankees completed a sweep against the Twins on Monday, October 7. This marks the end of the three game series, in which the Yankees dominated. They will now play the Houston Astros. The Bronx Bombers performed very well in the series, making a big step towards the World Series.
Luis Severino pitched four scoreless innings in Game 3, coming off of an injury. This was just his fourth major league start of the season and he looked perfect. He threw 83 pitches through four strong innings. Aaron Boone decided not to push Severino in his first game back. The bullpen was relied on to take over and finish the game against the Twins’ power hitting lineup.
Gleyber Torres homered to center field in the second inning for the Yankees first run of the game. Brett Gardner singled to left field, bringing Gio Urshela home for another run. Gleyber Torres hit a double and then was brought home by a Didi Gregorious single. Cameron Maybin hit a solo home run to left field, putting the Yankees up 4-1. Torres hit another double, then stole third, and brought home by a Didi single. The offense remained unstoppable and showed no signs of slowing down.
The Yankees will prepare for an Astros series. The Astros would pose a serious threat to New York in the American League championship. They have strong pitching and strong hitting throughout their lineup. The Yankees strike out a lot, but hit a lot of home runs. This should be a great series as both teams will do everything they can to advance to the World Series.
