The New York Yankees completed a sweep against the Twins on Monday, October 7. This marks the end of the three game series, in which the Yankees dominated. They will now play the Houston Astros. The Bronx Bombers performed very well in the series, making a big step towards the World Series.

Luis Severino pitched four scoreless innings in Game 3, coming off of an injury. This was just his fourth major league start of the season and he looked perfect. He threw 83 pitches through four strong innings. Aaron Boone decided not to push Severino in his first game back. The bullpen was relied on to take over and finish the game against the Twins’ power hitting lineup.

Gleyber Torres homered to center field in the second inning for the Yankees first run of the game. Brett Gardner singled to left field, bringing Gio Urshela home for another run. Gleyber Torres hit a double and then was brought home by a Didi Gregorious single. Cameron Maybin hit a solo home run to left field, putting the Yankees up 4-1. Torres hit another double, then stole third, and brought home by a Didi single. The offense remained unstoppable and showed no signs of slowing down.

The Yankees will prepare for an Astros series. The Astros would pose a serious threat to New York in the American League championship. They have strong pitching and strong hitting throughout their lineup. The Yankees strike out a lot, but hit a lot of home runs. This should be a great series as both teams will do everything they can to advance to the World Series.

Update: The Yankees took Game 1 in Houston on Saturday, October 12. They dominated the Astros all game, not even letting up a single run. They won 7-0 in a tough matchup in Houston. Masahiro Tanaka pitched 6 innings and only allowed one hit. He also put up 4 strikeouts, adding to his great performance.

Gleyber Torres had a huge game for the Yankees, hitting a RBI double in the top of the fourth. Then he hit a solo shot to left field in the top of the sixth, giving the Yankees a two run lead. In the same inning, Giancarlo Stanton hit a solo home run to left field. Torres hit a RBI double in the top of the seventh, to take a 5-0 lead. Gio Urshela hit a solo home run to right field, making the game 6-0. Torres finished his amazing performance with yet another RBI, making it 7-0.

The Houston Astros won Game 2 in Houston on Sunday. It was a close game all the way until the finish. The Astros won 3-2 in the eleventh inning. Carlos Correa hit a walk off home run to win the game for Houston. He also hit a RBI double in the second inning. Judge hit a two run home run in the fourth inning that put them up 2-1 in the game. They just couldn’t hold on in extra innings.

It was a heartbreaking loss, but they will look to recover in the Bronx on Tuesday.
