Gerrit Cole

Thomas Finch, Staff Writer

According to a leaked email, the New York Yankees have officially offered Gerrit Cole an 8 year contract estimated between 290-300 million dollars. This not only will break the record of newly signed Stephen Strasburg’s 7 year, 245 million dollar deal, but it would also make Cole the highest paid player in the game at  37.5 million dollars a year. This would break Max Scherzer’s record of 37.4 million dollars a year.

With such a contract, the Yankees have also opened trade talks for left hand pitcher J.A. Happ. The Yankees seem to be doing this to lighten their payroll to sign Gerrit Cole as trading Happ would save 26 million dollars over the next two seasons.

With all of these rumors flying around, Yankee fans are sitting on the edge of their seats as they anxiously await any news surfacing about Cole.

As more progresses on Cole, I’ll be here to give you the inside scoop.
