MLB Free Agency Predictions

John Kenworthy, Staff Writer

MLB Free Agency is an extremely eventful time in the sports world. Every year free agency features many stars. This year is one of the more star studded classes in recent memories. The class features slugger Aaron Judge, flame throwing ace Jacob deGrom, and the contact hitting speedster Trea Turner along with many other excellent players.  With that, let’s get into some likely destinations for a few stars hitting free agency.

OF Aaron Judge: New York Yankees

The Yankees would be foolish to let this year’s MVP walk. Judge is arguably the best player in the majors at this point. He has power, he can field, he can run, and he can hit for contact. This past year Judge slugged a record setting 62 home runs and arguably carried the Yankees to the ALCS where they were swept by the World Series winning Astros. I can see Judge getting about 8 years and about $320 million in his new contract. This brings the AAV to about $40 million per year making Judge the richest player in Baseball.

RHP Jacob DeGrom: Texas Rangers

DeGrom has been the most dominant pitcher in Baseball for quite a long time now. However injuries have riddled his past couple of seasons. The 3 time Cy Young Award winner has posted video game type numbers over the past 5 seasons having his highest ERA of 3.08 this past year ( Which is still an elite ERA).  The Texas Rangers signed SS Corey Seager and 2B Marcus Semien last offseason. These contracts combined for about half a billion dollars. However, the Rangers had awful pitching last year. I can see the Rangers making a splash this offseason giving deGrom a 4 year $140 million dollar contract to bolster a struggling rotation.

SS / 2B Trea Turner: Philadelphia Phillies

With a heart crushing loss in the World Series to the Houston Astros, the Phillies could look to go all in this offseason. Turner has expressed his love for the East Coast. The fit is there, it’s just a matter of  how serious the Phillies want to take this offseason. I imagine the Phils giving Turner 10 years at about $330 million dollars.

LHP Clayton Kershaw: Los Angeles Dodgers

Clayton Kershaw belongs in a Dodgers uniform for life. The Dodgers will offer Kershaw a 1 year deal worth about $15 million dollars.

SS Carlos Correa: Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles had a surprise season last year, nearly making the playoffs. If the Orioles feel they can contend for a playoff spot this season I can see them adding a star like Correa. There were reports that the Orioles were interested in Correa last year as well. If the Orioles offer Correa 7 years at about $260 million dollars it should get a deal done.

LHP Carlos Rodon: New York Yankees

The Yankees showed interest in Rodon in free agency last year and at the trade deadline this past season. If Hal Steinbrenner is fed up enough with the Yankees he could choose to spend big in route to bringing a World Series back to New York. Adding Rodon would make an already good rotation great. 3 years $90 million should bring Rodon to the Evil Empire.
