The Hawthorne High School girls Varsity Soccer team is off to a great start. They started off on a great note and are continuously striving to have a great 2025 season! With the new season just starting the girls are full of excitement and determination. On the other hand, the seniors are taking in every practice, game, and bus ride to their hearts.
For the seniors, this season is more than just winning. It’s about giving it their all while also savoring every moment with their teammates. Seniors Olivia Passero, Mackenzie Doyle, and Ava Martinello talk about friendships that grew into family and important things they have learned while being on the team for 4 years.
The Clarion: What is something that you have learned throughout your 4 years being on the team?
Mackenzie Doyle: Something I learned from 4 years of being on the soccer team is that the bond we create on and off the field is something that helps us more than just practices and drills. It makes us more connected and makes losses and wins more meaningful. We lose as a team and win as a team and either way we all still need to come together, move forward and work harder to be our absolute best.
The Clarion: What is something you will miss the most about being on the team?
Olivia Passero: Something that I will miss the most about being on the Hawthorne High School Girls Soccer team is the family that we have grown over the past 4 years. Over the past 4 years, some of my best friends started off as teammates. I’m going to miss the community and laughs but…this family and sisterhood is now a part of me, even after that final whistle blows. As I move to a new chapter of my life, I can only hope that the family will continue to grow and impact my teammates and sisters in the ways it has impacted me.
The Clarion: What is your favorite memory you have from being on the team?
Ava Martinello: My favorite memory was when we played Glen Rock my sophomore year and we were 0-0 the entire game. We then came back and we scored with a minute left of the game. I made great saves that game to help us win and we all just played our best and it was a really great game. It will forever be a great memory that I got to beat my rival town at least once in my soccer career at Hawthorne.
