Hawthorne Boys Basketball has started the season with a team record of 4-3 so far this year. They had a much better start of the season than they did last year where they lost to Ridgefield on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 and Manchester Regional on Thursday, December 19, 2024 which brought their record down to 0-2.
The Bears did not have any confidence or trust to have a great or strong season overall since they lost in the later games in February after being 11-6 on the season where they lost to PCTI, Weehawken, Lyndhurst, Park Ridge, Hasbrouck Heights and Waldwick. Speaking of Waldwick, the Bears concluded their season with a team record of 12-12 after losing to them in the first round of the NJSIAA playoffs with a close score of 39-36.
This year, they gained 4 wins by beating Saddle River, Glen Rock, Leonia and PCTI. The Bears conquered Saddle River in their 1st game and home opener with a score of 56-30 on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
The Bears then conquered the Glen Rock Panthers 48-32 at Glen Rock High School on Friday, December 19, 2025. The Bears also conquered the Leonia Lions in the first round of the Holiday Tournament 68-48 on Monday, December 29, 2025.
Finally, on January 1, 2026, the Bears traveled to Depaul Catholic High School to take on and play against the PCTI Bulldogs in the Spartan Ball Drop Classic Tournament and the Bears were able to beat the Bulldogs 58-43.
In terms of the losses, the scores were extremely close. After beating Saddle River and Glen Rock to make their record 2-0 on the season, the Bears received their first loss by losing to the Lyndhurst Golden Bears with a close score of 63-57 at Lyndhurst High School on Monday, December 22, 2025. As well as in the Holiday Tournament Championship Final, the Bears received their second loss by losing to the Ridgefield Park Scarlets with another close score of 57-53 on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. Finally, the Bears received their third loss by losing to the Weehawken Indians 53-49 at Weehawken High School on Monday, January 5, 2026.
Despite the losses, the Bears will move forward and look to build on a great and spectacular season this year in terms of the fact that they have the same players from last year who will help them build and collect a strong amount of wins, such as Alfonso Coba (Senior), Uriel Acosta (Senior), Jake Pollick (Junior) and Adam Reilly (Junior). These players have been the same players who have played on the varsity level since last year. However, Adam Reilly has been a varsity starter since his freshman year, while Alfonso Coba and Uriel Acosta have also been varsity starters since their sophomore year. Our 5th and new player for the 2025-2026 boys basketball season is Justin Vukovic (Junior) and sometimes, Mikel Silverio (Junior) will step in and take over for either Alfonso Coba or Uriel Acosta if they are absent or need a break to refresh and cool off.
Anyways, speaking of which, feel free to come out and support your Bears throughout the season as they look to build on a much better and stronger season this year and we hope to see you at some of these games! (January & February Schedule/Opponents, Season Stats & Players/Seniors are below.)
