The NBA is full of great players who compete for the same thing every year: the championship. Another main thing players fight for, is the Most Valuable Player award.
As of week 24, the league leader is Victor Wembanyama from San Antonio with Shai Gilgeous Alexander trailing behind. Week 23 Wembanyama was also the leader while Alexander trailed. From week 13 to week 22 Alexander was the leader with Wembanyama, Jokic, and Brown fighting for that second place spot. Earlier weeks Denver center Nikola Jokic was the leader.
Why are these players on this ladder? These players make an effort on and off the court. Whether it’s them scoring 30 points a game, or making an effort to keep their teams morale high. These players stay united no matter what.
As of now the top 3 consist of Wemdanyama (1st), Alexander (2nd), and Jokic (3rd). Wemby averages 24.8 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 3.1 blocks, and 1 steal a game, making a tremendous effort on the glass and putting up points. His double-double averages have helped his team to their 60-19 record.
Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic has helped assist his team to their 52-28 record. Although he averages a triple-double with 27.8–28.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 10.9 assists per game solidifying his title as a playmaker.
Shai Gilgeous Alexander, the OKC point guard averages 31.3–31.4 points, 6.5–6.6 assists, and 4.3–4.4 rebounds per game. With his 30 point contribution he has helped support his team to a 64-16 record, being the 1 seed in the Western Conference, with the Spurs in 2nd, and the Nuggets in 3rd.
These are the current league top 3 for the MVP ladder and it is self explanatory as to why. Who deserves the glory though? Wemby averages a steady double-double a game which makes a great effort to his team. Jokic averages a triple-double with 11 assists as a center, which declares his playmaking abilities. Shai Gilgeous Alexander averages 30 points, but his other stats are a little bit of a let down. Jokic averages more assists than the point guard from OKC.
Jokic has the best averages and chemistry with his teammates, and you can tell by the assists he gets. Providing a great look for someone goes a long way.
As the NBA regular season comes to an end the players will have to fight hard for their award and make sure they can complete their goals.
