Matt Fenkart, HHS senior, has big plans for his future. He plans to graduate high school with honors, attend a college with a strong science program and medical school affiliates, and eventually become an oncologist.
Fenkart is currently undecided about what college he is going to attend; however, he knows he wants to major in anatomy and biological sciences with a pre-med focus. Fenkart intends on attending four years of college, four years of medical school, and two to four years of residency and internship. Then, as an oncologist, he will specialize in the research, diagnosis, and potential removal of cancer in the body.
“Medicine has always been a passion of mine,” said Fenkart. “My uncle is a doctor, my mother a nurse, and my father is an EMT. I have also lost a lot of relatives to cancer, and I want to do what I can to help.”
Fenkart believes that Hawthorne High School has given him a strong base for his future in oncology: “HHS has definitely prepared me for my career. All of my science teachers that I’ve had, Mr. Zaolino, Mrs. Dallessio, Mr. Kopec, and Mr. Davidson, have all prepared me for the real world of science.”
