Congratulations to Sawzer Basha who won the April Math Challenge sponsored by the Library Media Center. He was recently awarded his prize of two tickets that were donated by the Hawthorne Movie Theater.
To celebrate Math Awareness Month, students were challenged to answer this math problem: The desks in the classroom are in straight rows with the same number in each row. You sit in the second row from the front and the fourth row from the back. You are the third child from the left end of the row and the fifth child from the right end. How many students are in the class?
Sawzer knew that the number of students is: 35. His name was drawn as the winner from among the students who knew the correct answer.
Each month the Library Media Center challenges students to answer a question that requires research or advanced reasoning skills. The May contest springs from this month’s theme: “Choose Privacy!” Testing students’ awareness of the Facebook terms of agreement, students are asked 6 questions that can be answered correctly by reading the Terms. The winner of this contest will win a $10 iTunes gift card.
