Hawthorne High School senior Faith Martin truly knows how to stand out in a crowd. In addition to being one of the top seniors in the graduating class of 2014 and an active part of HHS, Martin is an outstanding member of the Hawthorne community, actively participating in a local youth group to better herself and her hometown.
Martin is a member of Saint Anthony’s youth group. Here, she takes part in activities such as going to retreats and working at the ice cream stand at the Saint Anthony’s feast. Moreover, the group gives a helping hand in the community. For example, the youth group members visit senior citizens to bring some sunshine and company to their day. They also perform in a choral during the Christmas holiday season.
Jerry Pecoraro, the youth group leader, says Martin is truly one of a kind. He said, “If there’s anything that makes Faith stand out from her peers it’s that she knows how people should be treated, with respect and dignity, and she does so daily without hesitation.”
Martin’s kindhearted personality is also seen in the halls of HHS. As a hardworking, diligent student, Martin has excelled in her academic endeavors and has stood out to teachers at HHS as a reliably, respectful pupil.
Her hard work and dedication also translates into her extracurricular activities. Along with being a member of the marching band, concert band, and school drama productions, she also held a leadership role in the color guard. Here, Martin’s “respect and dignity” played a huge role in building a strong team.
Next fall, Martin will be bringing her compassionate and hardworking character to Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. HHS is proud to be able to call Martin an alum and wishes her the best in the future.
