The East Coast is sitting carefully by as word spreads that Hurricane Joaquin is creeping its way toward us. On Wednesday, September 30, the storm strengthened and is now officially headed our way after it hits the Bahamas.  What was supposed to be just a powerful rain storm has worked its way up to a Category 1 tropical storm. A Category 1 tropical storm is a high wind storm with speeds of around 73-79 mile per hour and usually does damage to most trees, without major building damage.

Weather forecasters around the East Coast are warning us that the eye of the storm is to hit us later this week.  On usatoday.com, it was stated that as the storm grows nearer “it is also growing stronger.”  The Hurricane Center has stated that the oceans are already beginning to swell up and Florida and other East Coasts states should be on alert.

Although the storm’s path is undetermined, forecasters predict it’s headed our way.  Computers show that the storm could be headed anywhere, but its most possible route is somewhere along the East Coast.  Flash flood warnings are showing up in our area since there is predicted to be several inches of rain coming our way.
