The Hawthorne High School graduating class of 2024 has had its rotation of class advisors, the latest replacement being none other than our well-known math teacher and sports coach, Mr. McMann.
It was announced over the summer that he would be stepping up alongside Mr. Harty, and the Clarion had the fortunate opportunity to interview him about his new position as the senior class advisor.
The Clarion: Have you ever been a class advisor before?
Mr. McMann: Yes, I was a class advisor for the class of 2015 and then also for the class of 2022. I was with each of those classes from freshman through senior year.
The Clarion: What are some of your roles as a class advisor?
Mr. McMann: Class advisors wear a lot of hats throughout the years for their respective classes. Handling dues, organizing fundraisers, planning events such as the Holiday Dance, Prom, etc. all fall under the scope of the class advisors.
The Clarion: What are you most excited about as the new senior class advisor?
Mr. McMann: Just getting the opportunity to work with this year’s senior class and hopefully provide them (along with Mr. Harty) an enjoyable experience this year.
The Clarion: What are your feelings on this year’s senior class?
Mr. McMann: This year’s senior class are a group of kids that are very involved in the school and have a lot of passion for the school and their community, and it’s something that is awesome to see.
The Clarion: Are there any particular events this year that you look forward to as a class advisor?
Mr. McMann: I always enjoy the day after the Holiday Dance where students usually get dressed up for the Senior Volleyball Tournament. The Senior Trip is also usually an enjoyable day (traffic depending of course).
The Clarion: What are some of the things that students in class cabinet can participate in?
Mr. McMann: The students in class cabinet help with designing the senior t-shirts, planning hallway decorating, and giving input on things such as fundraisers and the senior trip.
As a current senior, I look forward to having Mr. McMann as my class advisor. I wish him luck, and I’m sure this will be a great year for the class of 2024!
