Music is vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. This kind of sound is soothing to the brain of the person who is listening, no matter preference of genre.
From calming classical to heavy metal, music is a form of relief and escapement for one to experience. Music is something that reaches down into your soul picking up any emotion you are feeling. If you’re sad, have music pick you up; if you are anxious, find your favorite tune; if you are excited, get pumped up with some music to move to. There’s so many ways music helps us and brings us together. The reasons could go on forever. Music is mindful, music is soul.
Music exerts a powerful influence on human beings. It boosts memory, builds task endurance, lightens your mood, reduces anxiety and depression, pushes off fatigue, improves your response to pain, and helps you work more effectively. Other than your personal playlist, music has a way to connect one another by using such emotional connection whether it be from a national anthem at a sports game to sharing a headphone.
While everyone has their own music preference there are some known songs that have left so many people to think and acknowledge what one lyric may mean. Which is why it’s good to enjoy everything, to experience more feelings than you may realize.
I know that as a human you’ve felt strong emotions when listening to a song you’re interested in, whether it’s good or bad depending on the memory that the song awakens. As I have a wide variety of music exposure, I can say that I have songs for almost every emotion. There are even songs that come up randomly on my playlist and have the power to change my mood instantly.
From artists like Jeff Buckley to Van Halen the kind of tune that plays within that song triggers your brain, music increases blood flow to brain regions that generate and control emotions. The limbic system is involved in processing emotions and controlling memory is found to “light” up when our ears perceive music. This is what leaves us with endless possibilities of emotions just by switching a song.
There’s a reason music is inescapable, it’s mindful, it is soul.
